The construction of the Thor offshore wind farm off the west coast of Jutland is progressing. Half of the planned 72 monopile foundations have now been installed, RWE reports.

The foundations will be transported from Eemshaven in the Netherlands and installed approximately 22 km from the coast by the ship Les Alizés. Each monopile is around 100 metres long and weighs up to 1,500 tonnes. The secondary steel structures for the foundations are handled from the Port of Thyborøn, where the maritime logistics control centre is also located.

- With Thor, we are building Denmark's largest offshore wind farm to date. It is a great achievement to have reached the halfway point with the safe installation of the monopiles. I would like to thank all colleagues and partners involved for their contributions, says Sven Utermöhlen, CEO of RWE Offshore Wind.

The farm will have several sustainable features, including recycled covers over the foundations, CO2-reduced steel towers and rotor blades that can be recycled. The turbine installation will begin from the Port of Esbjerg in 2026, and when the farm is completed in 2027, it is expected to be able to supply over one million households with electricity. At the same time, operation and maintenance are expected to create 50-60 jobs in a new service building in Thorsminde Port.

Thor Offshore Wind Farm is jointly owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), while RWE is responsible for construction and operation.
