TØNDER: The Finance Committee of Tønder Municipality has decided on Thursday to send two projects from the supplementary application round for wind turbines for consideration by the Municipal Council. This is stated by Tønder Municipality in a press release.
This means that a large part of the submitted wind turbine projects have been selected for now. The committee thus had a total of 25 projects to decide on at Thursday's meeting. However, three of the projects' applications had been withdrawn prior to the meeting.
The two projects that have been sent forward are VE Project Mårbæk and VE Project Vester Terp, which include five and 14 wind turbines respectively. The decision is the latest step in a longer process, where the municipality has worked through several application rounds to prioritize renewable energy projects.
All projects that the finance committee considered have, as part of the process, been through indicative referendums, where they have all been voted down, which also applies to the two projects that have been sent for further consideration by the municipal council.
- The indicative votes have been an important part of the process, and they have given us an insight into local attitudes to the projects. We take that seriously. At the same time, the votes are indicative, and voter turnout has varied greatly from area to area. Therefore, it is our responsibility to look at the overall picture and forward the projects that we believe should be dealt with politically in the Municipal Council, says Jørgen Popp Petersen (Slesvigsk Parti), who is the mayor of Tønder Municipality.
According to the municipality, the decision does not mark the end of the work with renewable energy.
- This is not the end of Tønder Municipality's work with renewable energy. It is the conclusion of this round and the votes that have been held, but the development continues. In turbulent times, it is important that we both stick to the green transition and contribute to being more self-sufficient in the energy area and supporting the development of current and future companies in Tønder Municipality, says Jørgen Popp Petersen.
The matter will now be dealt with in the Municipal Council.
