TotalEnergies and European Energy, which are behind the Jammerland Bugt offshore wind farm, have begun seabed surveys in the area between Kerteminde and Kalundborg. The surveys are being carried out by three advanced survey vessels, which will map the shape and geological composition of the seabed. The parties announced this in a statement.
Geophysical surveys play a crucial role in the development of offshore wind projects. They give us insight into the structure of the seabed and ensure that we can plan the construction with the highest precision and minimal impact on the marine environment, says VP and Head of Offshore Wind at European Energy, Andreas Karhula Lauridsen.
The collected data will be used to design the foundations for the wind turbines and plan cable routing and other installations. In addition to ship surveys, drone flights will also contribute data from coastal areas. The surveys are expected to be completed in August, after which the results will be analyzed.
Later this year, the same ships will be used for geophysical surveys for the Lillebælt Syd offshore wind farm between Sønderborg and Assens, which TotalEnergies and European Energy are also collaborating on, and utility company Sonfor is also a co-owner.
The Jammerland Bugt offshore wind farm, with its 240 MW capacity, will be able to supply more than 240,000 European households. The wind farm will consist of 16 turbines, and construction is expected to start in 2027, while commissioning is planned for 2029.
