The Danish Electricity Regulatory Authority submits development plans for the Danish electricity grid for consultation.

In 2022, the Danish electricity grid companies must prepare a new long-term and detailed review of their part of the overall distribution network, which leads the electricity to the sockets of Danish households and companies. The Danish companies have now sent these network development plans to the Danish Electricity Authority, which has sent the various plans for a four-week consultation until May 1, the authority said in a statement.

The requirement to prepare network development plans was introduced with amendments to the EU Electricity Directive. The background for the new rules is the EU's goal of green transition of the energy sector. In this context, the network development plans are considered an important tool to, among other things, support the development of renewable energy sources, energy storage and electrification of the transport sector. The plans must create transparency for market players about future developments and needs.

After the consultation period, the network companies must update the network development plans to the relevant extent and incorporate any consultation responses within 10 weeks. The results of the consultation process and updated network development plans must then be sent back to the Danish Electricity Supply Authority. The Danish Electricity Supply Authority will not present an actual approval of the plans, but will review the plans and ensure that the formal rules have been complied with. The grid companies must then send the final network development plan to the Danish Electricity Supply Authority by 1 December 2022 at the latest, which will publish the final plans by 1 January 2023 at the latest.
