The Consumer Ombudsman has reported the electricity company Vest Energi ApS to the police for calling consumers unsolicited and for using misleading sales methods in an attempt to get them to change electricity companies.

In the period from November 2023 to June 2025, Vest Energi has called at least 56 consumers without consent and tried to sell electricity contracts with, among other things, promises of large savings and statements that they are from the consumers' current electricity company. This is stated by the Consumer Ombudsman in a press release.

In conversations with 34 of the consumers, the sellers used sales arguments that the Consumer Ombudsman considers to be in violation of the prohibition of misleading information. According to the authority, the sellers did not know the consumers' current electricity contracts and could therefore not provide realistic price estimates.

- Companies may not call consumers unless they have expressly consented to it. Vest Energi has grossly disregarded this ban, and the electricity company's salespeople have also used sales arguments that have not been based on reality. That is why I have now reported Vest Energi to the police, says Torben Jensen, who is the Consumer Ombudsman.

In addition to not having permission to contact consumers, Vest Energi has, according to the Ombudsman, in some cases incorrectly informed that the consumers' current electricity company had been taken over by Vest Energi, or that the companies were collaborating.

The Consumer Ombudsman states that consumers who have entered into an agreement by telephone sales have a 14-day right of withdrawal. If consent to the call has not been given, or if the customer has been misled, the agreement is invalid. In that case, you should contact the electricity company in writing and demand to return to the previous company and get any amounts refunded.
