There has long been a debate in Stenstrup and Lunde north of Svendborg, where two private landowners have applied to build 125 hectares of solar cells, two 160-meter wind turbines and 70 hectares of recreational area. Those plans now appear to be coming to fruition after a majority in Svendborg Municipality's Planning and Local Community Committee decided to send plans for a large energy plant with solar cells and wind turbines to the Economic Committee. The Social Democrats and the Socialist Party voted in favor, while the Liberal Party and the Unity and Unity Party voted against and instead proposed a local referendum, but it was rejected. This is reported by TV2 Fyn.
- I am pleased that the process is moving forward and that citizens have the opportunity to see how the parties stand in relation to the project, says Arne Ebsen (SF), chairman of the planning and local community committee.
A total of 7,556 people and companies have received an invitation to submit comments on the project. This has caused major protests locally, with 450 citizens signing an objection. However, citizens were not allowed to vote on the project. This annoys the Liberal Party:
- We think it could be a good thing to take up and do a concrete citizen involvement with a referendum for people who live within a radius of approximately 2 kilometers in relation to whether it is a good or bad idea, says Rene Haahr, a municipal council member for the Liberal Party.
