From April 14, the requirements for security clearance of key personnel in the energy industry will be tightened. Anyone who has the ability to interrupt the supply to large groups of consumers must in future be approved by the authorities based on an assessment from the Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET). Green Power Denmark writes this on its website.
The rules include employees in control rooms at Energinet and electricity grid companies as well as employees who work with SCADA systems and other critical functions. Subcontractors may also be covered by the new requirements, according to a draft executive order from the Danish Energy Agency, which is under consultation.
- We must all take the challenges to our security of supply very seriously. Attacks on energy facilities are part of the ongoing hybrid war and have the potential to paralyze our country for shorter or longer periods, says Asbjørn Thranov, emergency preparedness and security coordinator at Green Power Denmark.
Green Power Denmark is working on a consultation response and calls on the authorities to ensure uniform and rapid processing of security approvals. The organization points out that long waiting times can be a challenge for energy companies that operate critical infrastructure.
