Martin Lidegaard and Bjarke Møller had both criticism and praise, and the ideas helped kickstart the green transition, which both believe is going too slowly.

Energy Forum Denmark 2024 focuses to a large extent on green transition and energy consumption in buildings. But in the opening speech of the leader of the Radicals, Martin Lidegaard, he touches on another dilemma that is highly topical.

- It is great to see so many people here working on what we are also working on in the Folketinget, even though the transition in energy consumption is going slowly, says Martin Lidegaard and elaborates:

- I myself just returned home from Ukraine last week. There is no doubt that it is sad that 15 percent of Danish gas consumption comes from Russia. That is also why it is sad that we are not acting within the Danish Parliament.

Martin Lidegaard also has very specific advice on how the green transition should be driven forward.

- We must have an action plan for each sector towards 2030, for example within buildings and energy, he suggests.

With the buildings, he has an important message.

- 600,000 Danish buildings are not climate-proof, and there is a huge amount of work to do. And then we must have a tax reform on what is worst for the climate. That means taxes on red meat and air travel. This probably also means tax breaks at the bottom, so that there is social balance in the whole thing, says the politician.

"We are not a green leader"

Director of the Council for Green Transition Bjarke Møller also does not have the uplifting messages.

- 53 percent of our fuels are fossil, and we are no longer a green leader. There is a lot happening in other countries and nothing in Denmark, says Bjarke Møller and elaborates:

- We are making it difficult for green energy to enter the energy grid. The Danes are buying more gas boilers again, even though we should completely get rid of them.

He is also in no doubt about what is needed.

- It must be much cheaper to start renewable energy. As it is now, we have a dysfunctional support system where too much is given to biogas, he says.

We need to move away from combustion.

- More people should do as HOFOR does, which is investing in ten large heat pumps, because they are three to five times more efficient than combustion, says Bjarke Møller and comes up with another weighty argument:

- The fossil-free society is both cheaper and better. An energy review of our legislation is needed.
