Electric car sales in the EU have increased significantly in the first three months of the year, while overall car sales have been fairly stable. In Denmark, electric cars now account for the majority of new registrations. Mobility Denmark writes in a press release.

- Car sales in the EU have remained stable in the first quarter. This shows that the automotive industry is still managing to navigate a time of change and uncertainty. In Denmark, we see the same pattern, and we are following the development closely, says Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark.

In March, 1,029,519 passenger cars were newly registered in the EU – a marginal decrease of 0.2 percent compared to March last year. For the entire first quarter, 2,715,008 cars were registered, a decrease of 1.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

At the same time, electric cars continued their progress. In March, 157,505 electric cars were registered in the EU – an increase of 17.1 percent – and for the whole quarter the figure was 412,997, which corresponds to a growth of 23.9 percent. The share of electric cars in car sales in the EU ended at 15.2 percent.

In Denmark, 24,540 electric cars were registered in the first quarter of the year, and the share of electric cars in car sales reached 65.5 percent.

- It is positive to see that electric car sales in the EU continue to grow, and in Denmark in particular we see a significant development, where electric cars now make up the vast majority of new registrations. The green transition in the transport sector is well underway in Denmark, but it is crucial that the entire EU supports this development through stable and ambitious framework conditions, says Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark.
