Three out of four Danes - or more precisely 76 percent - have been the victim of an attempt to defraud digitally.
For example, via trade between two parties, online shopping or so-called phishing, where a hacker can try to lure information from the recipient of an email or text message or gain unauthorized access to a system. This is stated by the Ministry of Social Security and Emergency Preparedness in a press release.
Here we refer to a new analysis of Danes' knowledge of information security in 2024 from the Danish Agency for Social Security. It was made together with the Association of Local Authorities (KL) and the Danish Regions.
Minister of Community Security and Emergency Preparedness Torsten Schack Pedersen (V) believes that digital fraud has become difficult for citizens to understand.
- We can see that Danes are very aware of the threats and generally have a high level of knowledge, but it can be difficult to translate that knowledge into safe behavior, says the minister in the press release.
The analysis has led him to initiate an information and campaign effort. The analysis will also be included in the work on the upcoming cyber and information security strategy, it says.
According to the analysis, which is done every two years, Danes have become less likely to follow the recommendations for safe digital behavior. For example, it could be about not updating your device, not using two-factor login when possible, and not choosing a strong password for your home wireless network.
