Colombia has received an offer from a subsidiary of green asset manager Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) in the South American country's first bidding round for offshore wind energy, Orlando Velandia, head of Colombia's National Hydrocarbons Agency (ANH), told Reuters.

- The participation of CIP, one of the world's leading investment funds in energy infrastructure and the green transition, is an international declaration of confidence, Velandia said.

ANH did not immediately provide further details about the offer from the subsidiary, CI GMF Cooperatief U.A.

The Colombian government has a goal of awarding contracts for at least one gigawatt of installed capacity in the bidding round, Reuters reports.

In December, the country's Ministry of Mines and Energy gave preliminary approval for eight companies to participate. This includes the Colombian companies Ecopetrol and Celsia, as well as the Belgian companies Jan De Nul and DEME, the British Dyna Energy, Powerchina and China Three Gorges. In February, the participating companies proposed 69 areas that can be used for the development of potential projects.

The country's president, the left-wing Gustavo Petro, wants to promote the development of renewable energy in order to make the country less dependent on fossil fuels.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners was founded in 2012 by a group of former employees of Dong Energy. The company works in such a way that it obtains capital from external investors, which are then invested in renewable energy projects. CIP is responsible for the design, operation and possible sale of the projects in the long term.

The Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas owns 25 percent of the company, while the rest is owned by the founders and their families.
