Digital fraud methods in the energy industry have become more difficult to understand. Energi Fyn now warns that fraudsters are increasingly using artificial intelligence to manipulate and deceive consumers.
With the help of AI, fraudsters can imitate the language and style of well-known companies, find information about employees and formulate messages that appear authentic - both as emails, text messages and in phone calls, says a statement from the energy company.
- AI makes it easy to tailor what you say on the phone or write in a text message so that it appears credible and sounds like it comes from the company you know. An AI model can search for information on the Internet, adapt to the company's language and tone and even obtain information about employees through their social media. So it has become even easier for scammers to cheat, says Christian Drejer, commercial director at Energi Fyn, and continues:
- That's why it's important to be vigilant, because even those who work professionally with IT security have experienced being cheated by well-constructed scams, and if the experts can be fooled, we can all be fooled, he says.
Energi Fyn encourages customers to be especially careful and not share passwords, CPR or account information digitally. Even small deviations in sender information can reveal fraud, and the most important advice is to stop and think before reacting.
