In the weeks leading up to the autumn holidays, the energy company Andel has launched a campaign called "Windy Retreat", where Danes could win free stays in summer houses and holiday apartments close to wind turbines during the autumn holidays. The stays were offered in a draw among interested Danes in September. But the campaign has been met with sharp criticism from wind turbine opponents, who call it distasteful. - I think it's professional advertising people who have done it, but basically, it should belong in a satire program to treat people that way, says Ulrik Iversen, chairman of the association Bevar Thy, who himself lives a few kilometers from Testcenter Østerild.
However, Andel defends the campaign. According to the company, the purpose is to give Danes a real experience of life close to wind turbines. A study commissioned by the energy company shows that 93 percent of the participants who live near wind turbines either do not experience any or only minor nuisance.
