Vestas has put plans to build a large factory for the production of offshore wind turbine blades in the Polish city of Szczecin on hold. DR reports. The planned factory was supposed to create over 1,000 jobs and be ready in 2026, but the project has now been postponed indefinitely.
- It is a balancing act where the demand for offshore wind is not as great as Vestas had hoped, and therefore it makes good sense to put things on hold, says Jacob Pedersen, head of equity research at Sydbank.
He points out that investments in offshore wind are extremely expensive, and that it requires stable and long-term agreements to make the projects financially sustainable. According to Pedersen, the situation is particularly pressured in the US, where the market has come to a standstill, while development in Europe is very slow. Vestas emphasizes, however, that the company will continue to invest in local production if the market proves to be large and stable enough to support new factories.
