The government and a broad majority in the Danish Parliament have reached a new agreement on faster and more efficient expansion of the electricity grid, which, among other things, involves adjustments to the planned line from Aarhus to Aabenraa and an expansion of an acceleration area in South Zealand, Lolland and Falster. This is stated by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities in a press release.

The agreement builds on a political agreement from December 2024 and follows a consultation process, where municipalities, stakeholders and affected neighbors have had the opportunity to raise objections. On this basis, Energinet has proposed changes to the line, which are now supported by the agreement group.

At the same time, the scheme for voluntary purchase of homes for neighbors of new 400 kV overhead lines is being expanded. In the future, neighbors with year-round residence up to 80 meters from the new lines can be offered purchase on expropriation-like terms.

- We need a stronger electricity grid if we are to achieve our climate goals and ensure green electricity for both families and businesses. But it must be done with care. When we ask citizens to live close to large overhead power lines, we also have a responsibility to listen and offer them decent conditions. We are now ensuring that. I have decided that Energinet will offer neighbors up to 80 meters away the opportunity to buy their homes if they want to move. It is only fair, says Lars Aagaard, Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities.

According to the agreement, Energinet must continue its work on adapting the lines to local wishes, and the new 400 kV connections must be laid with cables to the greatest extent possible, where technically possible.

The government and the Socialist People's Party, Liberal Alliance, Conservative People's Party, Unity Party and the Radical Left are behind the agreement.
