A large construction site with four factory halls on Masnedø near Vordingborg is largely empty, after work on the new Storstrømsbro is nearing completion. The area has been used in connection with the bridge construction, and the original plan was for the halls to be demolished when the last bridge workers leave the site. Now, the Port of Vordingborg will instead take over the 22-hectare area and will leave the factory halls standing. The port is in dialogue with several potential tenants, including a German consortium that has shown interest in establishing production for the offshore wind turbine industry. Part of the area is also intended for a PtX facility and warehouses. This is reported by TV2 ØST.
- There is an excellent production site and production facilities that can be used for, for example, elements for the offshore industry, so it would be a shame not to reuse it, says Jan-Jaap Cramer, CEO of Vordingborg Port.
In order to take over the area, Vordingborg Port has requested Vordingborg Municipality to expropriate the construction site from the Danish Road Directorate. A majority of the municipal council supports the request, but will wait until a signed agreement with a production company is in place. If the takeover becomes a reality, it will be a significant expansion of the port area, which has undergone major development since 2015. The port also expects that the plans could eventually lead to up to several hundred new jobs in the area.
