Last week, the Green Gas Lolland-Falster gas pipeline project reached a milestone. There, they crossed the 1,500-meter distance between Lolland and Falster through Guldborgsund. Energinet announced this in a statement.

The gas pipeline was pulled through a 1,500-meter-long undercutting of the strait. This means that all three water crossings on Green Gas Lolland-Falster have been completed. Earlier in the summer, the gas pipeline was laid through Grønsund – between northern Falster and Faroe Islands – and through Færgestrøm – between Faroe Islands and Zealand.

- The undercutting is a technically complicated part of the project, partly because despite thorough preparations, we cannot be completely sure what we will encounter along the way. Our team has now completed three waterway crossings out of three on the first attempt – it couldn't be better, says Claus Poetzsch, project manager for Green Gas Lolland-Falster.

Next step underway

The next step in connection with the waterway crossings is already in full swing. These are the so-called tie-ins, where the pipes from the waterway crossings are connected to the pipes laid on land.

The pipeline on Falster is thus already connected to the pipeline in Grønsund, and the project manager expects the remaining tie-ins to be completed within the next month.

Construction work on Green Gas Lolland-Falster. Energinet is responsible for the part of the gas pipeline that extends from Nørre Alslev on Falster and up to the compressor station in Everdrup between Rønnede and Næstved, a distance of 41 km.

While Evida is responsible for laying the gas pipeline in the ground on the 71 km long section from Nr. Alslev to Nakskov on Lolland. Evida started later than Energinet and has laid just over half of the pipes in the ground.

- The project is progressing according to plan. There are always challenges on such a large construction project, but we are solving them along the way. Overall, we are approximately 60 percent through the construction work on the onshore contract. We estimate that we can put gas on the gas pipeline next summer as planned and be ready to go into full operation at the end of August,” says Claus Poetzsch.
