Much has been said and written about the future plans of the Port of Hirtshals, which has been embroiled in director dismissals and accusations of a form of theft of trade secrets, after the Port of Hirtshals hired a new manager at the Port of Hanstholm.
Now, however, the future plans are starting to take shape for the Port of Hirtshals, which could tell that the Danish-Norwegian company NXT Green Energy is ready to plan a large three-digit million investment in Denmark's first production plant for liquefied gas at the port.
- Denmark is far ahead in the use of biogas and has the world's greenest gas network. Here we are currently seeing a change from previously, where it was natural gas that was primarily used for heating homes, to now being the industry and transport sector that demand the green gases, explains Jens Peter Lunden, who is the CEO. CEO and partner in NXT Green Energy.
The new production plant will be established in the port area of Hirtshals, where both ships (bunkering) and land transport can be serviced with liquid biogas from NXT Green Energy.
The Norwegian shipping company Fjord Line is the main shareholder in NXT Green Energy. The shipping company has been working on green transition for a number of years, and today half of the shipping company's ships sail on liquid natural gas.
Specifically, Jens Peter Lunden expects to break ground within a year:
- We are in the process of making agreements that ensure that we can sell the liquid biogas when we can deliver it in about two years. At the same time, we are working to establish cooperation with suppliers of green biogas, and it is not small quantities that will be needed. Here we also expect that both the new political winds and our investment will mean that more people dare to invest in biogas production. Demand will undoubtedly grow explosively in the coming 5-10 years, says Jens Peter Lunden.
