It has been a turbulent time for the Port of Hirtshals recently. The port recently poached Steen Hardin Hintze to a position as development manager from the Port of Hanstholm, where he had just taken up a position as sales manager.
However, the appointment of Steen Hardin Hintze will not be the only change in the management of the Port of Hirtshals. Both CEO Jens Kirketerp Jensen and Deputy Director Karin Eilers were dismissed before Christmas without being publicly announced.
The dismissals come on the basis of an external consultancy study that the port had initiated at the end of 2020. The study was to assess whether the port in its current form was equipped for the challenges and development opportunities that it faces in the coming years.
That report did not fall to the advantage of the existing management. The Port of Hirtshals board has thus concluded that the organization needs new management skills, while at the same time strengthening it in terms of development.
Development requires new forces
It was also the recommendations in this report that led to the employment of Steen Hardin Hintze. But the opposite is true for Jens Kirketerp Jensen and Karin Eilers. They have both been employed at the port since 2001, with Jens Kirketerp Jensen as director since 2004
- It is important to emphasize that the changes are not an expression of dissatisfaction with the previous performance of tasks, but are solely based on an assessment that new skills are required if the Port of Hirtshals' development potential is to be fully utilized in the future, says Anker Laden-Andersen, chairman of the board at the Port of Hirtshals.
Karin Eilers has been on sick leave since her dismissal on December 22. Jens Kirketerp Jensen will continue his work during his notice period, which runs until 31 December 2021.
However, he is still discussing the possibility of continuing to be associated with the port, albeit in a different function. This is because the board assesses that Jens Kirketerp Jensen's skills and experience are still relevant to the port and its future, according to the Port of Hirtshals.
