The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has approved that Arcadia eFuels can build a large plant on Masnedø at Vordingborg Harbour, writes FemernBusiness.
This will produce e-kerosene – a green aviation fuel made from water, CO2 and green electricity instead of oil. The fuel can be used in regular jet engines, but emits far less CO2 overall.
The approval covers the entire plant – from hydrogen production and synthesis to storage and shipping. According to the environmental approval, Arcadia may produce up to 66,000 tons of e-kerosene per year, as well as smaller quantities of diesel and naphtha. Naphtha is a light oil product, which is typically used in the plastics industry or mixed into gasoline.
- It is a major milestone – both for the project and for us as a port – that the first eSAF facility in Denmark is now environmentally approved, says Jan-Jaap Cramer, Director of Port of Vordingborg.
The facility is classified as a column 3 risk company – the highest category under the regulations for hazardous substances. This means that special requirements are imposed on safety, emergency preparedness and regulatory oversight.
According to the environmental approval, the plant is expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2028. Construction is expected to take approximately 3.5 years, and the project is budgeted at 7.5 billion kroner.
The company has previously estimated that the plant's capacity will exceed the Danish domestic need for aviation fuel by more than double.
