VORDINGBORG: Vordingborg municipality is ready for more offshore wind and more Power-To-X, and will therefore help to raise the government's ambitions in the area. This is stated by the municipality's mayor Mikael Smed (S).
- In recent years, we have invested a lot of money and effort in developing our ports in Klintholm and Vordingborg to be able to service offshore wind turbine operators and contribute to the development of the new green PtX energy sector. At Klintholm Port, we have created a modern service port for Vattenfall and EnBW's offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, and here we are ready to welcome more new offshore wind turbine operators, says Mikael Smed.
More offshore wind requires more offshore wind farms – and there is a prospect of six to seven new offshore wind farms in Danish waters according to the government's negotiating proposal. In Vordingborg, they have identified which projects the municipality's ports could particularly help with.
- We are pointing to Kriegers Flak North and South in the Baltic Sea. They have already been designated as suitable areas, and a large offshore wind farm can be established here quickly, says Mikael Smed.
In the government's negotiation proposal, Climate Minister Dan Jørgensen (S) proposes that a new flexible tender model be developed that makes it possible to connect PtX companies directly with offshore wind farms without the public electricity grid. This is to be done in order to support the development of PtX companies in Denmark. That part of the government's proposal is also receiving a very positive reception from the mayor of Vordingborg.
- At Vordingborg Port, we are preparing to receive the PtX companies Arcadia eFuels and Vordingborg Biofuel. We are working to attract even more PtX companies, as the port has ample space and good access to power from solar and wind, while the companies can ship their products directly from the port. So we are very excited about the initiative and the prospect of more offshore wind in the Baltic Sea, and we are ready to play along, says Mikael Smed.
Ports have room for more service operators
Klintholm Port has been expanded and today functions as a service port for both Vattenfall and EnBW, which services the German offshore wind farm Baltic 2. Klintholm Port has room for more service operators and this creates many local jobs when the offshore wind turbines are spinning and need to be serviced.
Vordingborg Port is also being expanded and the PtX companies Vordingborg Biofuel and Arcadia eFuels are establishing themselves in the new port area. This is a total investment of up to 10 billion. over the coming years.
- A massive expansion of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea and a targeted focus on PTX companies will give both ports in Vordingborg and the entire municipality's business community great opportunities for growth in an order of magnitude that could be crucial for the area's future development. There are many new jobs and several new companies that we can look forward to, says Bolette Christensen, director of Business Vordingborg.
Both Mikael Smed and Bolette Christensen have a clear call to the government:
- We call on the government and the Folketing to reach a broad agreement before the summer holidays that removes obstacles to the expansion of green energy both on land and at sea. It is urgent - because at the moment the expansion is slowing down, say Mikael Smed and Bolette Christensen in unison.
