A new research project is receiving support from Innovation Fund Denmark to develop autonomous drones that will prevent sabotage and secure critical installations below the sea surface. Specifically, Innovation Fund Denmark is investing DKK 26 million in the project through its Grand Solutions program.

The U-SHIELD project will protect installations such as pipelines, communication cables and offshore wind farms against uninvited underwater vehicles. By developing an autonomous drone that can identify and immobilize threats, the technology will contribute to securing the infrastructure behind both energy supply and communication.

- The U-SHIELD project represents a major step forward in protecting our critical underwater infrastructure. By combining advanced technology and collaboration between leading experts, we can create a solution that not only protects our resources, but also promotes the security and stability of our society, says Tim Lysholt Jensen, VP Products & Technology at Teledyne RESON A/S.

The project is led by Teledyne RESON in collaboration with Aalborg University, the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Southern Denmark and Copenhagen Subsea. The project has a total budget of 36.51 million DKK and runs over three years. The offshore energy company Vattenfall is providing test facilities.

- U-SHIELD contributes to developing technology that can make our society more resilient to threats to the systems we all deeply depend on – from energy supply to communication. It holds exciting potential for both Denmark and Europe, and we look forward to following the project, says Innovation Fund Denmark's director, Cecilie Brøkner.
