Minister for Green Transition, Jeppe Bruus (S), warns that Denmark risks new energy dependence as previously with Russian gas, and will therefore stop importing biomass from the US. This is reported by Ingeniøren. Since 2020, the import of American wood pellets to Danish biomass plants has quadrupled, a new calculation by the media shows.
The minister calls increased imports of American biomass "not very smart" for the climate due to CO2 emissions from shipping and at the same time sees a security policy problem:
- We need to become self-sufficient at the European level so that we become less vulnerable. We need to figure out how to produce ourselves and closer to ourselves, he says.
