Fewer Energinet projects delayed – but delays are getting longer

The proportion of delayed construction projects at Energinet has decreased from 73 to 69 percent, but the projects that are still affected are on average further delayed.

Energinet's latest quarterly report shows that 69 percent of the company's construction projects within electricity and gas transmission are expected to be postponed or delayed compared to the original schedules. This is a decrease from 73 percent in the second quarter of 2025. The development is mainly due to the fact that several delayed projects have been commissioned and that new projects have been started. This is stated by the state-owned company in its quarterly report for the third quarter.

However, there is not only good news in the recent report, because it also shows that the average delay for the projects that are still affected is increasing from 28 to 29 months. The reasons include long case processing times at environmental authorities and municipalities, supplier challenges and project developers who wish to postpone their part of the work.

In Q3, Energinet had a total of 203 transmission projects in the establishment phase, of which 192 were electricity grid projects. Of these, 67 are so-called grid customer projects, which include solar parks, wind turbines, battery plants and large consumers that must be connected to the transmission grid. Compared to the status after Q2 2025, 14 projects have changed their schedules. Four projects are expected to be completed faster than expected, while 10 projects will have longer schedules.

Energinet states that the picture may change in the coming quarters, as the portfolio of projects is constantly developing. A number of initiatives have been launched to reduce the number of delays, but many of them are only expected to have an effect on new projects.

- We are constantly working hard to ensure progress for our projects with the instruments we have in Energinet. However, we cannot solve the task alone, and therefore we are in close dialogue with stakeholders and partners who are responsible for some of the links in the long value chain and approval process that construction projects must go through. It is good that the number of postponed and delayed projects is falling, but we are far from reaching our goal yet, says Søren Dupont Kristensen, Chief Operating Officer at Energinet.

In order to ensure better reporting of delays and postponements, Energinet has made a minor adjustment to the calculation method since the last quarterly statement. This means, among other things, that 9 maturation projects have fallen out of the statement, while 6 establishment projects under 10 million kroner have been added.
