COPHEN (FRA): The urban development company By & Havn's operations department is now taking a big step towards a more environmentally friendly and efficient everyday life when two specially built electric trucks become part of Copenhagen's port and urban development areas.
The trucks will replace the old diesel-powered models and will handle tasks such as snow removal, moving concrete blocks and transporting gravel and buoys.
The transition is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 20,000 tons per year.
- With the new electric trucks, we are taking another concrete step towards becoming CO2-neutral in operations by 2030. These are solutions that both reduce our CO2 footprint and make everyday life easier and safer for our employees, says CEO Anne Skovbro in a press release.
The trucks are the first in Denmark of this size and are specially built with cranes of up to 36 ton meters and advanced remote control, which improves both safety and the working environment.
Towards the turn of the year, the trucks will be gradually tested before they take over full operation.
A 400 kW fast charging station has also been installed to ensure fast charging, also during energy-intensive tasks such as snow removal.
Operations Manager at By&Hav Jens Galby says that the new trucks have now been put into use, and that the experience so far has been good – among other things, the battery capacity is better than expected, also during the winter period.
