Sales manager Kate Christensen doesn't really have time to talk about what it's like to be at WindEnergy Hamburg 2022. Normally, the Dynamica Ropes sales manager is alone with owner and CEO Jørgen Sørensen. But now there is a need for more employees at the trade fair stand. That's why two engineers are helping out. The moorings that the Taulov company makes to anchor floating wind turbines to the seabed attract many visitors.
- Normally, you're always asked what experience you have in the area, but now everyone asks: Do you have enough capacity? We do - but we don't have the capacity for the large projects they demand. Even though we just got the world's largest braiding machine, says Kate Christensen.
Wind fairs usually start quietly before the number of visitors really starts to rise. But it has also been different this year.
- It actually started at 10 am on the first day, and it is never usually like that. I think there are extra people here this year because it has been so long since the last time, and maybe also because of the whole situation with the energy crisis, she says about the increased interest.
There is so much interest in moorings for floating wind, and the interest also comes from countries where it is not possible to place the wind turbines on the seabed due to the depth of the water. Normally, Norway and California are mentioned as the countries where floating wind makes sense due to the deep seabed. But it is another country where the most visitors have come from.
- For every visitor we have had from the USA, we have had four from Japan, says Kate Christensen.
The atmosphere is so euphoric that former competitors have now almost become colleagues.
- They say: This is a big cake, there is a piece for everyone, says Kate Christensen with a laugh.
The atmosphere and interest are so great that even the sales manager remembers that trees don't grow in the sky.
- You have to remember to stay grounded. It's an adventure in this industry, but it all has to be done, says Kate Christensen.
Perhaps the great interest even comes as a surprise to the industry panel, who the day before held the opening press conference for WindEnergy Hamburg 2022. Here, it was unanimous that a lot of monopiles still need to be erected before you get to the floating offshore wind turbines.
But that doesn't seem to be the case if the interest continues. Dynamica Ropes already has experience in making the moorings for floating offshore wind turbines such as WindFloat Atlantic and Stiesdal's "TetraSpar"
However, Dynamica Ropes did not achieve final sales agreements at the fair, and that is completely normal.
- Sales do not happen at the fair. This is where we get the contacts, explains Kate Christensen.
Correction added on October 3. In an earlier version it was stated that Dynamica Rope's new braiding machine is Denmark's largest. But it is actually also the world's largest.
