RWE has inaugurated a new operational building at Thorsminde Port, which will serve as a base for the operation of the offshore wind farm Thor. The building is 2,300 square meters and will house control rooms, warehouses and offices, among other things. The building was built by Østermark Entreprenørforretning and designed in collaboration between ATRA architects and Frandsen & Søndergaard, RWE informs in a press release.
From the base, technicians will sail out to the turbines, and when the farm is fully operational in 2027, between 50 and 60 employees are expected to be associated with the operation.
- The operational building will be our home for at least the next 30 years. The first employees have already moved in, and from this spring onwards our technicians will sail out to the wind turbines from here daily, says Günther Fenle, project director for RWE Thor Offshore Wind Farm.
The opening was marked by visits from the local area at Thorsminde Harbour – including neighbours, partners and representatives from Holstebro Municipality, Thorsminde Harbour and the local business community.
- We are pleased that the long-term strategy of developing Thorsminde into a modern service port for large offshore wind projects is now being seriously rolled out. For Holstebro Municipality, the inauguration is a preliminary culmination of a targeted effort to attract new activities and green jobs to an area with unique strengths within wind energy, says Kenneth Tønning (V), mayor of Holstebro Municipality.
The Thor offshore wind farm has a capacity of 1.1 gigawatts and is being built in the North Sea. A total of 72 wind turbines are to be installed, and the first ones have already been erected. When the park is fully operational, it will be able to produce electricity equivalent to the consumption of more than one million Danish households. The project is owned by RWE with 51 percent and Norges Bank Investment Management with 49 percent, while RWE is responsible for construction and operation.
