The EU and Australia have entered into a comprehensive trade agreement, which, according to Dansk Metal, could have an impact on both Europe's security and Danish industrial jobs. The agreement was signed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Dansk Metal said in a press release.
- Europe really needs to find new, good friends in an uncertain world. When China, Russia and the USA are rattling their sabres in their own ways, Europe must forge new alliances - and Australia is an obvious partner for Europe, says Johan Moesgaard Andersen, EU manager at Dansk Metal.
According to the European Commission, the agreement could increase EU exports to Australia by around a third over the next ten years. This corresponds to a total export value of over DKK 132 billion and could have an impact on employment in the industry.
- Denmark has a strong industry with skilled employees and innovative companies. We have a good chance of converting the new opportunities into good jobs in Production Denmark, while Europe strengthens its security of supply for critical raw materials from Australia, for example. It's a win-win all the way around, says Johan Moesgaard Andersen.
The agreement must now be approved by the EU member states and the European Parliament. In the past, opposition from France, among others, has delayed similar trade agreements.
