The Energy Complaints Board has revoked the Danish Energy Agency's permit from 2025 to investigate the subsoil for possible CO2 storage in an area of approximately 458 square kilometers around Kalundborg, Holbæk, Odsherred and Nekselø Bugt. The decision means that the case must be re-examined, writes TV2 Øst.
In Kalundborg, the decision is a source of joy for the Danish Society for Nature Conservation: "It is great that we are now getting support for our position and assessment," says Susanne Ladefoged, chairwoman of DN Kalundborg, who herself has filed a complaint in the case. She points out that the agency has not sufficiently assessed local conditions and Natura 2000 areas.
The Danish Energy Agency states that it is reviewing the decision and assessing the consequences. It is still unclear whether the permit will be reviewed or abandoned altogether. "The Danish Energy Agency is now closely studying the decision and assessing its implications. The Danish Energy Agency has no further comments as long as the current government negotiations are ongoing," it says in a written response to the media.
