The award of a contract for the capture, transport and storage of CO2 to Aalborg Portland A/S is an important step towards large-scale CO2 capture in Denmark. This is stated by Dansk Metal in a press release.
The contract covers 1.25 million tonnes of CO2 annually and is the result of a tender with several qualified bids, including from Gaia ProjectCo P/S, which has declined a reduced contract as a marginal bidder. According to Dansk Metal, this is evidence of a market with several projects ready for implementation and the potential to build a Danish value chain within CCS.
This shows that there is a strong market and several projects ready. Now it is important that we look at what is needed for even more CCS projects to be implemented. It is crucial for both the climate and for building a strong Danish value chain, says Emil Drevsfeldt Nielsen, head of business policy at Dansk Metal.
Dansk Metal calls for rapid political follow-up with new initiatives so that more projects can be realized and the pace of the rollout of CO2 capture and storage is maintained.
- It is good news that we are now taking a concrete step from plans to reality. CCS is crucial if we are to achieve our climate goals and at the same time preserve production and jobs in Denmark, says Emil Drevsfeldt Nielsen.
