Wind turbine company Siemens Gamesa is permanently closing the production line in Brande after a year and a half of temporary closure. Around 150 employees will be affected by the closure. This is reported by TV Midtvest.
For the mayor of Ikast-Brande Municipality, Ib Lauritsen (V), the closure does not come as a surprise, as production has been at a standstill for the past year and a half, however, the mayor sees the closure as a step in the wrong direction.
- Line production has not been running for the past year and a half. I see it as a step in the wrong direction. It is bad for the future prospects for wind turbine production in Brande and Central Denmark, says Ib Lauritsen.
Furthermore, it will only be the line production at Siemens Gamesa Brande that will be affected by the closure, says Ib Lauritsen. The production was responsible for making the nacelle, which is the housing that sits behind the rotor of a wind turbine.
Phase-out during 2026
Siemens Gamesa has informed TV Midtvest that the production will be phased out during the 2026 financial year, and that the company wants a responsible transition, where employees are reassigned to other relevant positions.
- The company intends to handle the transition responsibly, and will, where possible, reassign employees to other relevant positions, Siemens Gamesa informs TV Midtvest.
Mayor Ib Lauritsen is not afraid for Brande, even though Siemens Gamesa has cut around 150 positions. He points out that there is still development in the city, and that the large factory facility means that he is not worried about the Spanish-German wind turbine manufacturer disappearing from Brande.
- There is so much development in Brande, and there is such a large factory facility and testing department, that I am not afraid that Siemens Gamesa will no longer be in Brande, says Mayor Ib Lauritsen.
There will still be around 2,400 employees employed at the Brande branch, in service, development and administrative positions.
