It was only a few weeks ago that Vestas announced that 100 new positions were on the way to the factory in Nakskov. But the wind turbine giant is now starting to threaten to back down on that promise. The reason for the tougher tone from Vestas is due to a lengthy process surrounding the expansion of the shipping channel in Nakskov Fjord, which is necessary so that the 115-meter-long turbine blades for the V236-15.0 MW turbine can be transported away from the factory in the future, writes TV2 Øst.
Since 2018, it has been decided that the shipping channel should be expanded. Since then, time has been spent on various regulatory approvals, which have now fallen into place. However, a sluice permit is still needed before the shipping channel can be expanded, and Vestas believes that the process is going too slowly. Sluices are only carried out in the winter for environmental reasons, so the permit should be in place soon.
- We need to get clarification on whether this shipping channel will come through. If it doesn't, we will have to look at something else, where we ship from other places in Europe, says Vestas' COO, Tommy Rahbek Nielsen.
Vestas has the support of the mayor of Lolland, who is also surprised by the long process. Vestas generates over 1,000 jobs in Nakskov. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency expects to process the sluice case in 2024.
