The electrification of private customers in Eastern Denmark gained further momentum in 2025, with electricity consumption increasing in all municipalities in Cerius-Radius' supply area. In particular, the citizens of Allerød Municipality stand out with the largest growth in electricity consumption from 2024 to 2025. This is stated by Cerius-Radius in a press release.
According to a new analysis from the grid company, electricity consumption among private customers in Allerød Municipality increased by 9.5 percent compared to the previous year. This puts the municipality in first place among the municipalities in Cerius-Radius' supply area. Holbæk and Sorø follow with increases of 8.8 percent and 8.3 percent, respectively. The development is related, among other things, to more electric cars and heat pumps in private households.
- This is a significant increase in one year that we are witnessing in Allerød. The accelerated electrification of society in recent years is particularly remarkable, as electricity consumption has previously remained almost unchanged from year to year. The average consumption of private customers grew by 5.6 percent last year in our supply area, but the citizens of Allerød were almost four percentage points higher than that, says Cäthe Bay-Smidt, head of Cerius-Radius.
The analysis also shows that the grid company received a record number of inquiries about new electricity connections in 2025, and Cerius-Radius therefore expects that electricity consumption among private customers will increase further in 2026. This places demands on the capacity of the electricity grid, while private customers can continue to reduce their electricity bill by shifting consumption to the hours when the total electricity price is lowest.
