Following local protests against the construction of the new wind farms Vesterhav Syd and Nord, Vattenfall is now presenting a new design draft. Here, the wind turbines will be placed as far away from the coast as the state has designated. This is stated by Vattenfall in a press release.
The new design draft is a result of listening to the concerns of the citizens, says Jacob Nørgaard Andersen, Vattenfall's CEO in Denmark.
- The new design drafts for Vesterhav Syd & Nord confirm that we have listened to local wishes and are investing in moving the turbines as far away from the coast as possible. The two designs should be considered Vattenfall's current proposal for the location of the turbines. The environmental assessment itself will be completed this summer, after which the Danish Energy Agency will ask the public for input on it, he says.
This primarily applies to the northern part of the wind farm, as the southern one is already as far away from the coast as possible. The establishment of Vesterhav Syd & Nord has been decided by the Danish Parliament, and the two areas, which are located between four and ten kilometers from the coast, were designated by the Danish state in 2012.
The two offshore wind farms, which will consist of 20 and 21 wind turbines respectively, will increase Danish electricity production from wind by approximately ten percent - enough to cover the annual electricity consumption of 380,000 Danish households. The change from the original design will cost a three-digit million amount, Vattenfall states in the press release.
