Siemens Gamesa launched its new 14 MW offshore giant with a wingspan of 222 meters back in May, which quickly received two orders in Taiwan and the USA respectively.
Now Siemens Gamesa has received the first European order for the SG 14-222 from German Innogy SE, which is building the Sofia Offshore Wind Farm at Dogger Bank, 195 kilometers off the British east coast.
The upcoming offshore park will consist of 100 14 MW wind turbines for a total capacity of 1.4 GW.
A final investment decision is still missing, which is expected to be implemented in early 2021, when the first part of the initial onshore work will also begin.
The offshore construction is expected to start in 2023, and the wind farm can start producing electricity in 2024-2025.
Innogy SE also recently selected Siemens Gamesa to supply wind turbines for the upcoming 342 MW Kakasi Offshore Wind Farm project, which is being built at Heligoland in the German part of the North Sea.
