RWE is ready to take the next step in the construction of the Thor Offshore Wind Farm. This is how the cable work on land begins. RWE states this in a statement.
The work will take place from mid-April to the end of October. Here, controlled underbores will be made under the dune and the nearby field immediately south of Tuskær. The underbores will be made at a depth of more than 20 meters to protect and preserve the dunes.
Smaller underbores will also be made on the approximately four kilometer long cable route between the transformer station at Volder Mark and the beach to avoid road closures and take care of protected watercourses.
The controlled underbores are being carried out to run two traction pipes under the dunes and the nearby field in preparation for the cable landfall next year. The two underbores are approximately 425 meters long and are being made with pipe diameters of 71 centimeters. The traction pipes are welded together on the beach, from where they are pulled through the underboring.
East of Torsmindevej, the land cables are divided into three phases each, which are buried during June and July and led to the transformation at Volder Mark, where they are connected.
The submarine cables and land cables will be assembled in a "joint" in a buried concrete box. The joint box, joint and test work will be carried out in the period July to October 2024.
The submarine cables that are brought ashore are export cables from the transformer station at sea, which will supply the transformer station on land. The submarine cables are planned to be installed and assembled with the land cables in 2025.
With a planned capacity of more than 1,000 MW, Thor will be Denmark's largest offshore wind farm to date. Thor is scheduled to be operational by 2027 at the latest.
