Ørsted has now started offshore construction work for Greater Changhua 2b and 4 in Taiwan, which will consist of 66 Siemens Gamesa 14-236 DD turbines. The project is part of Taiwan's green energy transition and will provide power to millions of households. Ørsted writes in a press release.
- The commencement of offshore construction work for Greater Changhua 2b and 4 underlines Ørsted's full focus on developing, constructing and operating large offshore wind farms in Taiwan, says Ørsted's Regional Director for Asia Pacific, Per Mejnert Kristensen.
Ørsted was awarded the right to construct the offshore wind farms in June 2018. In July 2020, Ørsted entered into a 20-year fixed price power purchase agreement (CPPA) with a company to purchase the entire production from the offshore wind farms.
- As the first offshore wind farms in Taiwan with a CPPA, they are not only a clear expression of the trust that our customer and the market have in Ørsted's industry-leading technical expertise and extensive experience, they also set a significant benchmark for long-term partnerships between companies and the renewable energy industry, as well as the crucial role of offshore wind in role in building a low-carbon economy, says Per Mejnert.
The company expects the offshore installations to be completed by the end of 2025, and that the farms will be fully connected to the grid in 2026. When completed, Ørsted will have a total offshore wind capacity of almost two GW in Taiwan.
