A new and larger transfer boat, STB15, is ready for deployment in the Hornsea offshore wind farms. The boat, developed in collaboration between Esvagt, OSK Design and Hvide Sande Shipyard, will be able to transfer more technicians and more cargo – even in difficult weather conditions. This is stated by Esvagt.
The boat is a further development of the Safe Transfer Boat concept (STB), which Esvagt has previously introduced. The new version is equipped with both traditional boat landing and the so-called GUS system, where technicians are hoisted onto the wind turbine platforms.
- Our SOV concept with transfer boats has shown its potential and created a need to carry out even more tasks with the STBs, says Søren Westphal, Senior Project Manager at Esvagt and responsible for boat development in the shipping company.
The boat was built at Hvide Sande Shipyard, which was also behind the predecessor STB12. The new STB15 is equipped with stabilizer and interceptor systems that are designed to dampen the ship's movements and increase comfort on board. At the same time, space has been made for technicians to stay on board for longer periods of time and under more demanding conditions.
- We are pleased to be able to build on a good and trusting agreement with Esvagt on the development of the next generation of STBs for the wind industry. Esvagt is very keen to incorporate the experiences from the everyday lives of seafarers into the boat design, and this helps to make the task interesting for all of us, says Carl Erik Kristensen, CEO of Hvide Sande Shipyard.
STB15 will be used, among other things, to transport technicians, spare parts and supplies, as well as to ensure personnel changes in the Hornsea projects. It is designed to operate in higher seas, which expands the possibilities of use in daily operations.
