More electricity customers are choosing to form local energy communities to share and utilize self-produced electricity, including from solar cells. To support this development, the Eastern Danish grid companies Cerius-Radius have helped develop a new tariff method that will come into effect on January 5, 2026. This is stated by Cerius-Radius in a press release.

Cerius-Radius supplies 1.5 million electricity customers in Eastern Denmark, and with the new method, local associations of electricity customers will have the opportunity to be billed in a way that reflects their actual load on the electricity grid. The method will also provide an incentive to reduce peak loads and thus contribute to postponing the need for expensive investments in the electricity grid.

- This is a new invention, and it has required a lot of dialogue and work to get here. Because it is one thing to measure and bill individual customers, but when we talk about billing associations of customers, the discipline immediately becomes more complex. That is why we are proud of the new method, and we hope that customers will enjoy and benefit from it, says Cäthe Bay-Smidt, Head of Function at Cerius-Radius.

She emphasizes that the method is not a discount scheme, but is intended to ensure that the energy communities' payments correspond to their real costs in the electricity grid.

- We constantly keep a close eye on whether our prices ensure correct and fair pricing for customers, and that is not always easy when developments are happening quickly. The tariffs are an important tool to ensure the best use of our existing electricity grid, while we invest in strengthening and expanding the electricity grid for future needs, says Cäthe Bay-Smidt.

The new tariff model has initially been approved by the Danish Electricity Supply Authority until the end of 2027, after which the authority must assess whether the scheme can be extended.
