After final testing, the offshore wind farm Gode Wind 3 is now in full commercial operation and produces renewable energy equivalent to the consumption of 250,000 German households. This is according to Ørsted.
- Offshore wind is a key technology in Germany's transition to green energy. With the completion of Gode Wind 3, Ørsted now has five operational offshore wind farms in the German part of the North Sea, all of which produce local renewable energy on a large scale. We will further expand our supply of green electricity to German households and businesses when our next offshore wind farm, Borkum Riffgrund 3, starts delivering power in 2026, says Ørsted Group Chief Operating Officer Patrick Harnett.
Nuveen Infrastructure, which is a co-investor in the project, considers the commissioning as an important milestone in the collaboration with Ørsted.
- It is a great pleasure to be able to announce that the Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm has been successfully commissioned, marking a landmark event in our partnership with Ørsted. This milestone underlines our shared commitment to promoting renewable and independent energy solutions and creating sustainable value for society, the environment and our investors, says Jordi Francesch, Director of Renewable Energy Investments at Nuveen Infrastructure.
Program Director for Gode Wind 3 at Ørsted, Felix Gschnell, highlights the project's importance for the green transition.
- I am very proud that Gode Wind 3 is now in full commercial operation and supplying power to the German electricity grid. It has required an enormous effort from our team and our entire supply chain to complete this project under challenging conditions for the industry - so I would like to send a big thank you to them, says Felix Gschnell.
Gode Wind 3 has an installed capacity of 253 MW and consists of 23 wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. The power is transmitted via the wind farm's own offshore transformer station and a converter station from Germany's system operator TenneT to the extra-high voltage grid on land in Lower Saxony.
