Synergi, an interest group that works to ensure that Denmark reduces its energy waste in industry, public and private buildings and in Danish homes, has a new chairman of the board on Tuesday. And it is a well-known political energy profile who is taking up the position in the form of Morten Helveg Petersen.
The former politician has, among other things, become familiar with the agendas that Synergi is trying to bring into focus, through his time as vice-chairman of the European Parliament's Energy and Industry Committee, ITRE, and as shadow negotiator on the Buildings Directive. Now he will continue his work for greener and smarter energy consumption in Denmark and the EU in Synergi, and he is looking forward to it.
- During my time as a parliamentarian, I have had good and close cooperation with Synergi and therefore have in-depth knowledge of the organization, the secretariat and the members. I am impressed by Synergi's work, and that is why I had no doubts when I was offered the position of Chairman of the Board after my good friend, Bendt Bendtsen,” says Morten Helveg Petersen.
The new chairman believes that the need for a strong voice for efficient energy consumption and an ambitious implementation of international climate agreements is as great today as it was when Synergi was founded in 2018.
- I am clearly of the opinion that energy consumption fundamentally receives far too little attention, especially in Denmark, but also in the EU, he says.
Delighted with new profile
It is not only Helveg Petersen who is happy. Also CEO of Danfoss Kim Fausing, who was one of the initiators of the founding of Synergi back in 2018. He is happy that Morten Helveg Petersen has accepted the place at the head of the table in Synergis board.
- Morten comes with new ideas and visions that can hopefully raise awareness of energy efficiency as crucial to creating new momentum for the green transition, lowering energy prices and strengthening Europe's competitiveness, says Kim Fausing, but he also sends his thanks to Bendt Bendtsen, who has been in the position for over five years.
- We owe Bendt a huge thank you for his tireless efforts since we founded Synergi. His knowledge of both changing governments and the Danish Parliament as well as the European Parliament and the EU Commission has been crucial to spreading awareness of energy efficiency, says Fausing.
For the outgoing chairman, it is with both sadness and joy that he passes on the torch.
- All good things come to an end – this also applies to my time as chairman of the board at Syngeri. It means a lot to me that it is Morten who takes over the helm of the ship. Then I know that it is in good hands. and safe hands, says Bendt Bendtsen.
