Lemvig's mayor Erik Flyvholm has a plan ready for when there will be a major shortage of green electricity on land from the offshore wind turbines of the future.

Green municipality and future hub :
Lemvig's mayor: It's time for us to be taken care of

Lemvig Municipality already produces twice as much electricity as it uses. And the municipality is set to become a major energy hub.

LEMVIG: It's actually a dream situation. If as much green electricity was produced in other municipalities as in Lemvig Municipality, Denmark's current energy crisis would look completely different.

- We produce twice as much green electricity here in the municipality as we can use. And that even includes what is used in industry, says Lemvig's mayor Erik Flyvholm (V).

The message is in a class of its own and completely in line with the spirit of the times.

- We are the municipality in Denmark that produces the most green electricity per inhabitant and per square kilometer, says Erik Flyvholm.

There is a reason why so many wind turbines have ended up in the municipality.

- It's no coincidence that it has become like this. We are a large municipality of 500 km2, and there are many large farms with wind turbines. Then there is another reason, it is very windy. That is also why DTU has its test center for wind turbines Høvsøre here. It is right next to the North Sea, explains the mayor.

Wish for wind research in West Jutland

Erik Flyvholm has a wish and a request, which he mentions in all modesty with a warm smile and a twinkle in his eye, but it is now serious.

- I think that research owes it to West Jutland to have a research center or similar located here, he says and explains why with a map of the upcoming activities that are on the way.

It is the infrastructure for green energy that most people do not want in their backyard or even in their municipality.

- We already have two planned electricity cables that will come ashore in the municipality. They are from the Thor and Vesterhav Nord wind farms. At the same time, there are proposals that the power cable from the energy island should also come ashore.

This means that there will be converter stations in several places in the municipality. For Vesterhav Nord, it will be located in Hygum, and at the same time, another converter station is on the way near the Høvsøre test center. And there are several plans for green energy.

- We have already allocated areas for PtX next to the transformer stations, because the electricity that comes ashore here will be used, and as I have said, we probably already have green electricity, explains Erik Flyvholm.

The wind turbines, the energy island and the local hospital

The fact that so much of the future energy infrastructure and the wind turbines will be located close to Lemvig Municipality makes Erik Flyvholm draw a comparison.

- We will have Vesterhav Nord six to seven km off the coast as coastal offshore turbines. At the same time, we will have the energy island in our immediate area, approximately 85 to 100 km from the coast. This corresponds to the distance to our local hospital in Gødstrup, which is the same distance, says the mayor about a very unpopular hospital location that has by no means been forgotten in the municipality.

- That is why I also say that there are others who will build the next wind turbines on land, says Erik Flyvholm.

Here, the mayor is of course not talking about the turbines in the Høvsøre test center. He also has an important point, which is precisely about giving something back to the local population.

- It is now the case that if you yourself are part of it, then the acceptance is greater. We do not lack green electricity, so why do we need the electricity cables here if the electricity is not going to be used for PtX here, explains Erik Flyvholm.

One of the areas designated for PtX is for Skovgaard Energy by the village Frame.
