The citizens of Thisted Municipality have said yes to half of the specific solar cell and wind turbine projects that the municipality has sent for an indicative vote among the neighbors. This is reported by Green Power Denmark.
– Despite negative publicity about renewable energy projects, there are four good solar cell and wind turbine projects that are receiving local support. This shows that the citizens support the green transition – even when it affects them directly, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.
Only the citizens who live close to the projects have been able to vote. The results are used as a guideline for municipal politicians in their further processing of the applications.
– The negative voices are always the ones that speak loudest. Here, the silent positive majority has been given a voice. It is a good guideline for politicians in Thisted Municipality. But it is also useful knowledge for municipal politicians elsewhere in the country who must process applications to install solar cells and wind turbines, says Kristian Jensen.
He emphasizes that there is a need for more renewable energy sources.
– We cannot avoid the fact that wind turbines and solar cells can be seen in the landscape. But they increase our national security, improve our economy because we have to import fewer fossil fuels, give us cleaner air and make it cheaper to be an energy consumer, says Kristian Jensen.
