One step closer to realization: Skanderborg asks developers to submit project applications for renewable energy plants

Solar cells and wind turbine project gets green light for next step in Skanderborg Municipality.

SKANDERBORG: The City Council of Skanderborg has decided to invite the developers behind two local renewable energy projects to submit actual applications. These are a solar park at Agerskov in Hørning, developed by Jordejernes Energipartner, and a wind turbine at Mesing, developed by Skanderborg-Hørning Fjernvarme.

In the fall of 2024, the municipality received 15 project ideas for renewable energy plants from various developers. The projects at Agerskov and Mesing are the first where the developers are invited to submit an actual project application. This is what Skanderborg Municipality writes.

- What the City Council has formally supported is that we ask the project developers to submit a more detailed project application if they still want to proceed with the project. Only when it is available will a final decision be made to start the planning process and further explore the projects with environmental screenings, consultation periods, etc., says Frands Fischer, mayor of Skanderborg.

The solar cell project includes 29 hectares of solar cells and a battery system that can supply electricity to approximately 5,000 households. In collaboration with citizens, visual screening and recreational areas have been planned.

The wind turbine project near Mesing includes a wind turbine of up to 150 meters that is expected to be able to produce electricity equivalent to the consumption of 3,100 households. Skanderborg-Hørning Fjernvarme is the project developer, and the turbine is connected directly to the company's heat pump. This means that all electricity production can be used for heat production.

The two projects are part of the municipality's goal to produce green electricity equivalent to municipal consumption by 2030.
