The government will create two energy islands in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea by 2030, respectively, according to the first part of the government's climate action plan, which was presented on Wednesday. The prospect of a future energy island is causing excitement in Esbjerg, writes JydskeVestkysten.
- We do not yet know the exact location, but it is really good news for Esbjerg. The Port of Esbjerg is well placed in relation to the shipment of the turbines, and the timing immediately plays well with the recently announced investment, where the Swedish infrastructure fund Infranode is prepared to invest up to one billion kroner in buildings and facilities for wind turbine production at the Port of Esbjerg, says Mayor Jesper Frost Rasmussen (V).
A future energy island in the North Sea must be connected to both Denmark and the Netherlands with a minimum capacity of 2 GW. In the long term, this can be expanded to up to 10 GW of offshore wind, the government states in its proposal.
