
New rules on heat pumps came into force this summer. This means that far fewer heat pumps are now subject to statutory inspection. Energi Fyn writes in a press release.
The previous requirement for an annual inspection of your air-to-water heat pump has thus been changed to only be a requirement every two years, and only if the heat pump contains 3-5 kg of refrigerant. This came into force on 1 July 2024.
At first glance, this sounds like a great initiative that makes it easier to be a heat pump owner. There is nothing wrong with the intention. But in practice, the new rules will mean that there will be more heat pump owners who now risk being left with their hair in the mailbox financially.
This is because there are two undesirable consequences when the inspection frequency is changed: Both the lifespan and warranty on the heat pump go out the window. Many manufacturers require an annual inspection by a professional to maintain your warranty. It is therefore a good idea to continue to have your heat pump serviced annually and to consult a qualified installer, a heat pump advisor or ask where you bought your heat pump if you are in doubt about anything.
Keep the annual inspections
A regular inspection ensures that the heat pump functions optimally and that you achieve the best possible operating economy. The recommendation should therefore not be to reduce your inspections or to drop them altogether. The result can be that the heat pump breaks down, has reduced performance, has a shorter lifespan, and there is a risk that the heat pump's refrigerant escapes because the pump is not serviced properly and may not be adjusted correctly.
For the individual heat pump owner, this can have a major impact on their wallet. Purchasing a heat pump is hardly a pocketbook for most people, so it is essential that the heat pump can last for many, many years to come.
Seen from a larger perspective, poor maintenance, breakdowns and replacement are also not something that rhymes particularly well with green transition.
