Funen Police and Energi Fyn are conducting two major emergency preparedness exercises in Odense on December 3 and 10.
The exercises will take place at several of Energi Fyn's and Vores Elnet's locations and are intended to train the police's efforts and Energi Fyn's preparedness against sabotage and hybrid threats to critical infrastructure.
During the exercises, emergency vehicles will be driven, drones and loose ammunition will be used in selected areas. The power supply will not be affected, and no one will be injured, Energi Fyn states in a press release. However, the company emphasizes that the exercises are important for testing procedures and coordination between authorities and the energy company.
- The world has become significantly more uncertain in recent years, and as an operator of critical infrastructure, we must deal with an increasing threat level that places ever greater demands on us. It is essential for us to prepare for the worst-case scenarios. We therefore use the exercises to train our preparedness, says Bent Agerholm, CEO of Energi Fyn.
Increased investments in security
Energi Fyn states that it has increased its investments in security and preparedness considerably in recent years.
- The electricity grid in Denmark has been expanded in peacetime, but unfortunately we live in a world where there is great geopolitical uncertainty, explains Bent Agerholm. He continues:
- At Energi Fyn, we therefore have a strong focus on securing both the electricity supply and the fiber network against cyber attacks and sabotage. We are investing large amounts of money in increased security and surveillance. In the cyber area, the threat has been very concrete for a long time, and there have been several cases of cyber attacks in Denmark. We have not experienced attacks in the same way in the physical world, but unfortunately we must prepare for that. That is why it is important for us to participate in exercises with the authorities, so that we have control of our procedures if we are affected, explains Bent Agerholm.
If a current crisis or major power outage occurs during the day, the exercise will be interrupted, according to Energi Fyn, which did not want to provide further details about the exercises.
