"Hello [name] You have an outstanding balance with Energi Fyn, and your electricity may be turned off as a consequence if this is not rectified as soon as possible. See bill here [link]".
Many residents of Fyn have received such a text message recently. It is now causing Energi Fyn to call for attention, the energy company states in a press release.
- Our Customer Center suddenly received many calls from worried customers around lunchtime on Friday. We quickly found out that a fake text message had been sent out to many customers and non-customers, says Finn Andersen, commercial director at Energi Fyn, who emphasizes that the data does not originate from Energi Fyn.
Competitor company misuses Energi Fyn's name
Unfortunately, this is far from the only case of fraud where Energi Fyn's name has been misused. Among other things, Energi Fyn has been contacted by customers who inform them that the company Vest Energi has contacted them and informed them that they work with Energi Fyn, and that you can save thousands of kroner if you switch your electricity contract to them.
- This is in no way correct. We do not work with other energy companies. Certainly not companies like Vest Energi. The electricity market is difficult to understand, and therefore many people unfortunately fall for the immediate prospect of lower electricity prices and large annual savings. But the reality is often completely different, warns Finn Andersen.
Energi Fyn is currently investigating whether they can report Vest Energi to the Danish Consumer Council.
- Unfortunately, the scammers are becoming more and more creative. Both in terms of trying to trick customers into giving away personal information. But also when it comes to enticing customers to switch their electricity contract, says Finn Andersen.
