Across municipality types, support for onshore wind turbines, CCS and solar parks being installed in the local area is greater than opposition. There is a tendency for greater skepticism towards solar parks in particular in rural municipalities (55 percent in favor, 27 percent against) than in metropolitan municipalities (68 percent in favor, 15 percent against), but support remains significantly greater than opposition. A majority of Danes support climate measures that affect their everyday lives, such as higher taxes and politically binding targets for consumption-based CO2 emissions. This is shown by a new survey from the data observatory ClimAct. The University of Copenhagen – Faculty of Social Sciences writes in a press release.

56 percent of those surveyed are in favor of politically binding targets to reduce emissions from consumption, while only 18 percent are against. At the same time, there is strong support for cheaper public transport, state support for renewable energy and CO2 capture, and VAT exemption on fruit and vegetables.

- One of the most striking things about the new figures is the strong support for establishing politically binding targets for Danes' consumption-based emissions. The political line has for many years had a strong focus on technological solutions, and there may be concerns from the political side about whether citizens will agree to climate measures that interfere with their everyday lives and affect their opportunities as consumers, says Andrea Veggerby Lind, project manager and postdoc at the Queen Mary Center at the University of Copenhagen.

The survey also shows support for restrictive measures. 49 percent support higher passenger taxes on air travel, while 30 percent are against. Similar patterns are seen for taxes on agricultural emissions and diesel.

Also when it comes to local installations such as onshore wind turbines, CCS and solar parks, support is greater than resistance across municipality types. In rural municipalities, 55 percent support solar parks in the local area, while 27 percent are against. In the capital municipalities, support is 68 percent against 15 percent. against.

ClimAct's data was collected from 2663 respondents in May 2025 and is the first round of ongoing monitoring of Danes' attitudes towards climate policy measures.
