Much has been written about the great future of offshore wind and how much it can benefit Danish companies like Vestas. Sometimes, some of the important subcontractors who will help bring the green ambitions to life are forgotten.
Among them is the Danish shipping company Cadeler, formerly known as Swire Blue Ocean, which specializes in installing the enormous offshore wind turbines. The green transition also seems to benefit Cadeler, which today was able to present an annual report with an income of just over 150 million DKK.
However, expectations for next year are even greater, says Cadeler, which this year has invested in larger installation vessels and upgraded its existing fleet. Cadeler thus expects next year's report to provide income of almost three times as much.
- We operate in a rapidly growing market and in light of our current IPO and subsequent significant upgrade of our fleet, we are well positioned to deliver a strong result in 2021, says Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler.
As recently as last month, Cadeler received its largest order ever, when Siemens Gamesa entered into an agreement worth just over DKK 560 million for the installation of a number of the company's wind turbines.
This is far from the only order awaiting Cadeler, which currently has a record-breaking order book. Cadeler thus has outstanding orders worth just over DKK 2.3 billion.
Since 2012, Cadeler – previously in the form of Swire Blue Ocean – has serviced more than 30 offshore sites, and has also installed 414 foundations and 287 offshore wind turbines.
